| The Lititz Fire Company recently took a one-two hit with our fire apparatus. The ladder truck was being inspected by Underwriter's Laboratories for its annual third-party certification when a deformity was discovered in a beam of the aerial ladder. The ladder truck was immediately taken out of service and is currently being repaired at the manufacturer's facility in Ephrata.
The new Seagrave pumper went out-of-service four days later. This was a scheduled out-of-service as the pumper needed to return to the dealer in New Jersey for a few final corrections and modifications that are typical with a new piece of fire apparatus.
Having our only two vehicles with pumping capabilities out-of-service at the same time places us in a real bind. Fortunately, our good friends and neighbors to the west of us were gracious enough to loan us their second pumper.
We are very grateful to the Manheim Fire Company and Chief Ryan Olesen for their support and generosity. We want the citizens of our response area to rest assured that the Manheim Fire Company has not taken over Lititz if they see a red fire engine around town a little more frequently these days. |
