| As many of you may know, especially if you have children in school, this week, October 4 - 10, is Fire Prevention Week. Every year the Brickerville, Brunnerville, Rothsville and Lititz Fire Companies partner to bring a fire safety message to all the elementary school children in the Warwick School District.
This year we are again visiting all the elementary schools in the Warwick School District along with a number of daycare centers, pre-school facilities, church and private groups to help spread the message of fire safety. In addition to the safety points that we provide all the children we also provide a display of fire apparatus from each of the participating fire companies along with the Brickerville, Rothsville and Warwick Ambulance organizations. The kids love to see the vehicles and to learn what is carried on them.
We also show the kids what a firefighter looks like when dressed in a full firefighting suit and an air pack. It's a sight that is very foreign to many folks especially the kids. Although some of the youngsters may be apprehensive at first to get to close to the firefighter in all his gear, it's great for them to have this opportunity so they know that a firefighter is their friend if they ever have to meet one in an emergency situation.
We hope that your children are carrying their experiences and a fire safety message home to share with the rest of the family. As a reminder to everybody, PLEASE make sure that you have the proper number of smoke detectors in your home, be sure they are in good operating order and please change your batteries twice a year.
Please feel free to contact us if you need any smoke detectors or if you need assistance with installing a detector. We are proud to be part of the "Amanda Schoenberger Memorial Smoke Detector Program" which provides smoke detectors to anybody who is in need of them. Remember, we are here to serve you and help you in any way we can to make this a fire-safe community!! |
